Practical information for rental companies putting marquee letters into service — installation, power, maintenance and shipping.

Setting up

  1. Unpack and inspect. Check every letter powers on before it goes on the truck. Report transit damage with photos as soon as the crate is opened.
  2. Choose the position. Flat, level ground for freestanding letters. Weighted bases on any surface that could be knocked or become soft when wet.
  3. Plan the power. Each letter is individually switched. Confirm total load for the set against the circuit available at the venue.
  4. Allow spacing. Letters need breathing room to read at a distance — leave roughly one bulb-width between characters for a clean line.
  5. Dry weather only. Outdoor use is fine — lawns, courtyards, terraces, marquees with the sides open — but the standard build is not rain-proof. If rain is forecast, cover the set or bring it in, and never leave letters standing in water. For all-weather hire, order the waterproof version. If a set does get caught in rain, dry the face and the sockets before switching it on again.

Power and electrical

  • We build 110V and 220V versions. Voltage and plug type are matched to your market at order — tell us the destination country, not just the port.
  • Do not connect additional equipment to a letter’s output; it can damage the letter and anything downstream.
  • Use RCD/GFCI protection wherever guests and cables meet, indoors or out — the same as any portable electrical equipment.
  • Check cords and plugs at every hire return; replace damaged cables before the next job.

Every bulb is a separate part, seated in its own socket on the front face. Pull, twist, replace — the letter never comes off the wall and never goes back to the factory.

Bulb replacement and maintenance

  • Dead bulb. Replace at the socket — no need to remove the letter from service. Keep the spares that ship with each order in the crate.
  • Loose socket. Note it at return and fix in the workshop; a loose socket becomes a lost hire.
  • Cleaning. Wipe the body with a soft damp cloth. No solvent on powder-coated surfaces; no pressure washing near sockets or wiring.
  • Storage. Dry, off the floor, letters individually wrapped to avoid paint chips in transit.

Shipping and packing

  • Characters ship individually wrapped in reinforced export cartons, stackable for container loading.
  • Carton dimensions and weights are supplied with the quotation so you can calculate freight before you commit.
  • Sea freight for full sets; air and express for samples and urgent top-ups.
  • Flight cases are available for rental companies moving stock between venues — ask for the current price and capacity.

Selling and hiring out

Our customers hire marquee letters out by the character, per event. At typical rental rates in North America and Europe, a set pays for itself in a handful of bookings — which is the calculation most rental companies use when deciding how deep to stock.
